Detailed Description

A polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) bit is a special type of diamond drilling bit that does not use roller cones, but instead has polycrystalline diamond inserts. PDC bits get their name from the polycrystalline diamond compacts used for their cutting structure. Since their first production in 1976, the popularity of bits using PDC cutters has grown steadily, and they are nearly as common as roller-cone bits in many drilling applications.
