Overview

The NOV 24K Coiled Tubing Reel is a compact reel system designed for small- to medium-capacity coiled-tubing operations. It can be mounted on a skid or trailer, making it suitable for locations where transportation dimensions, equipment weight, and available wellsite space are important constraints. The reel accommodates all grades of coiled tubing from 1½ to 2 inches in outside diameter, with a maximum specified tubing diameter of 2 inches. When configured for an 8½-foot-wide coiled-tubing unit, it can hold approximately 21,400 feet of 1¾-inch tubing, although actual capacity depends on the reel dimensions and tubing design. A key feature is its purpose-built direct-drive gearbox. By eliminating a conventional drive chain, the system reduces the risk of chain failure and the associated loss of reel control, providing improved reliability during tubing deployment and retrieval. The reel uses a high-strength, double-tapered spoke design to reduce flange flex under load. It supports an operational payload of up to 110,000 pounds, comprising the tubing, internal fluid, and any installed cable during stationary wellsite operations, subject to the limitations of the supporting trailer or skid. The patented hybrid planetary arrangement offsets the drive motor, creating space for a wireline collector port on the drive side. This enables the reel to support both conventional coiled-tubing and wireline-equipped operations, while an optional configuration permits remote hydraulic operation of the spool safety valve.
